I am selling my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop computer. I want to wipe everything off of it before selling. How can I go about doing this??

  1. put a magnet on it
  2. All companies give out a "System recovery disc" for free. I got one when I was hit by a virus and basically it wipes your comp clean like when you bought it. Just call the company ad say you got a virus.
  3. Download Malwarebytes and go in tools and select File Assassin and delete any/all files permanently. (Unrecoverable) (Note) Run a quick scan after to make sure it's virus free? (Free) http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol
  4. If you want to wipe the hard-drive securely and have absolutely nothing on then use the free and brilliant DBAN - see link Download, burn to CD and boot with the CD, the instructions are simple and your hard-drive will be clean enough for anyone but the secret service and even they may struggle :) Use it all the time
  5. DBaN is what you want. It is free and will wipe out everything completely.
  6. Assuming that you have the necessary operating system installation disc, you can delete the hard drive's partition, create a new partition, and do a full disc format. Recovering any data from that drive would be VERY difficult.
  7. download boot and nuke hdd wipe and burn it to a cd/dvd and boot it up
  8. put in the windows cd restart the computer and format the hard disk. it clean it like new
