Hey, i have a windows 98 and im looking to upgrade it a little using parts from my friends computer? The two parts that im looking to upgrade first are the ram and the processor. My problem with the ram is that the ram card does not fit into the slot on my 98... and then for the processor, doing the hardware install should be easy enough, but once i turn on the computer will there be software problems or anything that i need to install? I want to be able to use this computer for world of warcraft, which at some point will require me to get a better graphics card i no.
Why don't computer manufacturers make the parts themselves? Just wondered. Every component in a computer is manufactured by a different company - and very rarely is one of these companies the same one whose name appears on the front of the finished computer. Basically, companies such as Dell, Packard Bell, Toshiba etc. don't actually manufacture computers - they simply assemble computers using parts bought in from other companies. Wouldn't it be cheaper to do everything under one roof? Make the components and then assemble them.

Can computer parts from a different country work in my computer? Hello all. I want to build a gaming PC up that will last me for a while, so I was looking at websites selling parts in the US/Canada that I could possibly import to the UK. Just one question is on my mind: Can imported computer parts (processor/motherboard/video card/ram, etc) work in a different country? I know the power supply is different, but if I were to use american parts in a UK-made computer would the whole thing just go up in smoke? Thank you for your time.
